Advocate – Work to prevent and eliminate homelessness through education and community action. Increase public awareness of the issues surrounding homelessness and the work of Family Promise. Public speaking experience is helpful but not necessary.
*After School Program Volunteer – Program offers children a safe place to be after school before their parents return from work. Homework help is provided as well as other activities including computers and board games. Many of the children attend after school programs at their schools so this program operates on an “as needed” basis.
• Coordinator - Schedule program volunteers and inform them of the school calendar. Work with staff to support, train volunteers, enforce policy and communicate with parents of students as necessary.
• After School Program Teacher - Volunteers need not be certified teachers. Position requires patience and a desire to help children learn.
• After School Program Student Volunteer - High school and college students needed to work with children on homework and other activities. Must be friendly and patient. Volunteers with specific interests such as music, art and physical fitness are encouraged to apply.
• Family Mentors - Individuals interested in providing direction, instruction, support and consistency to adults in the transitional housing program to help them regain self-sufficiency.
• Financial Consultant - Assist homeless families in setting up and implementing a budget.
• Handyman – Perform light repairs and maintenance work at Day Center and transitional housing units on an as needed basis.
• Marketing/Public Relations Committee Member – Energetic volunteer to create material and resources to publicize the mission of Family Promise including newsletters, brochures and press releases. Ability to write press releases and connections to media a big plus.
• Movers - Individuals with or without truck willing to help move furniture into and out of transitional housing.
• Office Support Volunteers - Answer telephones, assist with mailings, and/or work with office manager on special projects.
• Painters/Decorators - People interested in painting or decorating are sometimes needed to spruce up transitional housing units.
• Photographer – Skilled volunteer with own camera to take photos of families, individuals and volunteers participating in Family Promise Programs and events.
• Special Events/Fundraising Volunteer – Opportunities exist throughout the year to initiate, plan, publicize and participate in fundraising and publicity events.
• Video Technician – Knowledgeable person to make videos highlighting the work of Family Promise to be used for publicity and fundraising purposes.
*Weekend Morning Volunteer – Provide and prepare breakfast for families in program and/or initiate activities with children at the Day Center
