Strengthening Lives

Teen Philanthropy Institute

If someone gave you $10,000 to heal the world, what would you do?
This was the question posed to members of the Teen Philanthropy Institute from the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades. Each year, three groups of 20 teenagers form grant-making boards and set out by identifying causes that interest them.

Each participant contributes $250, a donor matches those funds and through negotiation and compromise members determine how to award the resulting $10,000 to the organization(s) of their choice.

Family Promise received a grant of $3,750 from one of the groups to support the New Leaf Transitional Housing Program. Our special thanks to Jared and Ezra Oliff-Lieberman of Demarest for enthusiastically promoting Family Promise.
