How the Housing Stabilization Program Works
Family Promise of Bergen County understands that the most cost effective way to prevent homelessness is to keep families in their current housing. Our Housing Stabilization Program aims to do exactly that by providing rental assistance and homeless prevention support to working families who have fallen behind on their rent payments and as a result are facing eviction. Aid is provided on a case-by-case basis based on an evaluation conducted by one of Family Promise’s case managers and is paid directly to the property owner, with the expectation that a family will be able to sustain their current housing once assistance ends.
To qualify for our Housing Stabilization Program, you must:
- Be a family with at least one child under the age of 18
- Be working full-time, at least 35 hours per week
- Not be receiving any other subsidies
- Have a current lease and currently reside in Bergen County
