2025 SNAP Cuts: Resources for Assistance & How to Help

Lost SNAP benefits, and in need of assistance?

Family Promise Walk-in Dinner Program
Family Promise addresses food insecurity through our nightly Walk-in Dinner Program, which provides free, fresh, nutritious meals to anyone in the community who needs one. Meals are available daily from 4:45 – 5:50 PM at the Bergen County Health, Housing, and Human Services Center (120 South River Street, Hackensack). All are welcome—no identification needed, and no questions asked. Every person receiving a meal must be physically present.

Find a Food Pantry
The Office of Food Security offers an online database of food pantries throughout Bergen County on their website. To find a location near you, use their Food Pantry Finder search tool here, or view the full list here.

For additional resources, visit the website of the Bergen County Office of Food Security.

How YOU can help our neighbors facing hunger
Give to the Family Promise Walk-In Dinner Emergency Food Response
As the government shutdown continues, over 25,000 Bergen County residents are slated to lose their SNAP benefits—also called food stamps—as of November 1, creating a food security crisis that leaves them unable to feed themselves or their families. As a result, Family Promise is anticipating a significant increase in people coming to our nightly Walk-in Dinner Program in need of meals.

Support a Local Food Pantry
Food pantries, already impacted by cuts in government funding, are struggling to keep their shelves stocked. Support your local pantry by donating food, supplies, or cash—monetary donations allow organizers to purchase what they need most to meet the needs of their clients and their communities.

Host a Food Drive
Consider hosting a food drive to benefit a pantry in your area. See below for a list of commonly needed items, or contact your local pantry for their most up-to-date needs.

    • Supermarket gift cards
    • Canned meat and fish
    • Canned pastas, stews, chili and hearty soups
    • Canned tomatoes and vegetables
    • Pasta, rice, and dried beans
    • Low sugar cereal
    • Peanut butter and jelly
