On September 27th our Youth Council for the Homeless will hold its first annual meeting and kick off another year of volunteer, fundraising and educational opportunities for high school students in Bergen County. After 20 years, of graciously serving as the Youth Council’s advisor, Cindy Blinn is stepping down. Both the Youth Council and Camp Lots-of-Fun flourished under Cindy’s creative, intentional administration. We thank Cindy for her service and welcome our new advisory team, Alina Albano and Sheila Verna.
The Youth Council meets once a month and provides an opportunity for teens to assist homeless children, parents and individuals in our area. Activities include participating in our Walk in Dinner Program, starting a homeless awareness group at your school, organizing and participating in fundraising events for Camp Lots of Fun and assisting at various Family Promise events throughout the year. In addition, many of our members are selected as counselors for Camp Lots of Fun each August.
Our first meeting of the year will be held on September 27th at 7:00 pm at Central Unitarian Church in Paramus. If you are or if you know a high school student interested in learning more about participating on our Youth Council, please contact Alina & Sheila at familypromiseyouthcouncil@gmail.com.
