Host or Support Congregation
Local Bergen County congregations host homeless families overnight (up to 14 people at a time) on a weekly rotating basis. Volunteers from the host congregation, as well as those from neighboring congregations, provide meals, encouragement, and fellowship. This is a great opportunity to volunteer as a family.

Watch THE FAMILIES’ PERSPECTIVE, a video that provides an overview on working with homeless families
This volunteer program allows families to stay in the Family Center on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays when the office is closed. Volunteers take morning or afternoon shifts to provide a presence for the families and to engage the children in activities as needed. Participating churches, synagogues, and individuals take monthly commitments. Orientation is required.

Walk in Dinner Program
Family Promise has been committed to feeding the hungry since 1991. A different group is scheduled every night of the year to prepare and serve dinner to approximately 150 people at the Health and Human Services Center in Hackensack. Over 100 congregations, youth groups, civic organizations, and corporations take part in this program. Dates are scheduled several months in advance.
