Dear friends of Family Promise,
In this issue of our newsletter “The Promise” we would like to acknowledge and thank the many people who support us and pay special tribute to our friend and board member Al Barbiere who died recently.  We also celebrate one of our clients, Sarah, and report on a recent panel discussion focusing on Poverty and Homelessness in Bergen County.

On November 9th, I had the privilege of joining an elite panel discussion called, “Affluence and Poverty – A Tale of Two Bergen Counties.”  The forum, sponsored by the National Council of Jewish Women, brought together local experts in the areas of hunger, family and individual homelessness, housing and social services. Each noted that poverty, homelessness and hunger are real problems in Bergen County despite the perception of overwhelming affluence. Read more in the article entitled, “What? Hunger and Homelessness in Bergen County?”

Our Annual Gala, held on October 22nd was a huge success. Over 220 came out in support of homeless, working families and the programs of Family Promise. Three mothers who were helped by Family Promise told their amazing stories. Read about one of them in the article, “Sarah’s Story.”

Finally, during this season, I am thankful for all of the wonderful volunteers, donors, sponsors, Staff and Board of Directors who allow Family Promise to change the lives of homeless families.  Together, we are changing lives. Because of you, we are able to help homeless working families become self-sufficient.

Warmest wishes for a joyous and peaceful holiday season.
Kate
