As you know, Family Promise has been providing shelter for the homeless for 30 years. We now concentrate on assisting working families who have become homeless address the issue, not just of homelessness, but of poverty. This is not an easy thing to do.
So we have been focusing on providing job training and helping to develop the skills necessary for parents to obtain jobs that pay a living wage. The good news is that our holistic approach is working. Several families have made great progress and have worked their way up to positions such as Assistant Branch Manager of a community bank, Unit Secretary at a local hospital, and Human Resources Manager for a national retail chain.
Recently, Kate received a call from a mother who had been in our program a number of years ago. It was wonderful to hear that, not only is the mother working full-time, but also that all three of her children have graduated from college!
And this is the real goal – and beauty – of what we do at Family Promise. When we can help change the life of a single parent, we dramatically increase the likelihood that the children will also escape the difficulties of poverty. With Family Promise’s help, we have changed the lives of this mom and the next generation. As one donor recently told me, what we do “improves the quality of life for all citizens in our area.” He is exactly right!
So please read more about what’s happening at Family Promise. Contact us if you have any questions – we want to let you know all about what we do to change lives.
